gaining blog readers

In part 1, we looked at just the first basic steps you should talk when starting a brand new blog. Now that you have been blogging for a bit and have a few posts up, it is time to gain a readership.

These are just a few ways to help you gain a loyal readership for your blog.

    • RSS Feed
One of the most basic things you can do to help improve a loyal readership is by keeping the link for your RSS feed readily accessible. If people like what they see right away, then they’ll most likely add your blog to their RSS reader and keep up with your posts regularly. Keeping this button or link in a clear spot will also encourage people to subscribe to your posts.

    • Commenting
A simple way to spread your blog at different sites is by commenting on other people sites. Leave intelligent comments that add to the discussion at hand, instead of just commenting so you can comment. It’ll put your name out there more and if people like what you are saying, they’ll be inclined to check out your site.

    • Social media (signatures)
The more active you are on other social media outlets, the easier it will be for you to spread your posts to people. Post a link to your latest posts on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon as a way to let people know that you’ve updated your blog. The more you get your name out there, the more readers you can gain.

    • Link Exchange
If you’re feeling friendly, try to set up a link exchange with other blog. You post their link on your site and they will post your blog on their site. It’s a happy partnership that can provide benefits to both sides of the table.

    • Contest
Want to gain readers fast and have some money to spare? Try running a small drawing that promotes your blog. Ask people to post a link to your blog on their site or Twitter or Facebook account and that will enter them in a drawing to win a prize. Of course, the best way to lure people is with prizes a lot of people would be interested it. While you might not want to spend a lot of money, even a simple gift card would be worth it to some people.

  • Guest Posting
After you feel comfortable enough in the blogosphere and have made a few friends in your industry, think about guest posting on someone else’s site. A good guest post will have you talking about something those readers will like that you also talk about on your site. A well-written post can gain you a lot of new eyes on your site.

Take advantage of these options available to you and you will begin to see an increase in your readers.
