Free vs. Paid Webinars: Which is Better?

Solomon Thimothy - September 12, 2012

Webinars are growing in popularity among businesses, especially among small businesses and entrepreneurs. Webinars often serve as a stepping stone in growing your business. Webinars are a great tool for establishing yourself in your industry amongst your competitors. It feels like invitations for webinars are bombarding the Web, all offering valuable information. Often times the number one deciding factor (after time) that most people ask themselves is, “does the webinar cost”? and if it does cost “is the webinar worth my money”? Grant it most paid webinars are not going to delete your life’s savings, but the free webinars give you information without reaching into your wallet. With this in mind, which do you choose? Does your company choose to offer a free webinar or a paid webinar. Let’s take a look at both.

Benefits of Free Webinars

Well the obvious benefit, is that the webinar is free. Most consumers if they are offered something that can benefit  them and they are offered that product or service for free they are more likely to take it. Free webinars are bound to give you more leads and webinar attendees than a paid webinar. If consumers feel they can get valuable information without having to pay, they will do it. Free webinars may give your business thousands of leads and their contact information, but does more always mean better?

Benefits of Paid Webinars

With paid webinars even though you will get less leads you are more likely to get higher quality leads. If the attendees are willing to pay for your webinar, they probably will be more likely to pay for your products and services in the future. Having leads who are willing to pay can increase your sales in the long run if they ever are in the market for your products and services. Also, if they feel that the webinar was worth their money they are more likely to pay for another webinar or valuable resource from your company in the future. Sometimes less is more.

Whichever  type of webinar your company chooses to do, it is a good tool to use in your marketing strategy. With both webinars you can offer a download of the webinar just in case attendees cannot make the actual live webinar, in this instance again you can choose whether or not to charge for the webinar download or not. Choosing whether to offer a free webinar or paid webinar will vary from company to company based on marketing goals, size of the company, and other factors.
